Duct Tape Derby

 

IT TAKES CREATIVE JUICES AND TALENT TO MAKE A SLED OUT OF DUCT TAPE AND CARDBOARD THAT WILL MAKE IT DOWN A SKI HILL! ... AND THAT IS JUST WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR! 

 

The Duct Tape Derby will take place on Saturday, March 11th at Mount Kato Ski Area.  

 
Check in will be from 2pm-3:30pm, with the racing and judging kicking off at 4:00pm. 
 
Check In: is in front of the office! All team members must be present at the time of check in. 
 

Of course you’ll be sledding for a prize and we will have 3 different categories:

 
Most Unique Sled
     o 1st Place Prize: 
     o 2nd Place Prize: 
Sled that goes the farthest
     o 1st Place Prize:
Best All Kids Sled (6-14years of age)
     o 1st Place Prize:
 
*Prizes will be awarded immediately following the race.
 
To Register please email- mail@mountkato.com by 8pm March 10th with Sled name & theme, along with names of the individuals on the team and Team Captains name and phone # (up to 4 people)
 

Spectators are welcome and encouraged!! Mount Kato will have food and drinks on site. Along with a toasty warm fire, so bring a whole group and make a day out of it!  

 

Here are some things you need to know about building your sled and race day:

 
All riders must be at least 6 years or older to participate.
All Riders must wear helmets. If you don’t own a helmet you can rent one. (cost: $4)
YOU must be physically able to push your sled to the top of the hill.
Check in on race day will begin at 10am. Make sure you allow plenty of time to park, check in and get your sled to the top of the hill before your assigned race time.
Sleds that fall apart while sledding down, must be picked up and carried down the remainder of the hill. 
Building material can include: cardboard, tape, glue and zip ties. Decorative elements such as paint, flags, and stickers are permitted.
Items such as screws, nails and anything metal will NOT be permitted.
Width restriction on all sleds of 60”. We will measure.
No height, length, or weight requirements.
Only 1 run down the hill per sled.
Only 1 sled entry per team.
you can compete individually and/or as a team.
Participants must sign a liability waiver as well as wear a tubing lift ticket. (Included in your participation fee)
If under the age of 18, participants will need a parent’s signature.
The party continues rain or shine.
Mount Kato reserves the right to deny participation in this contest in the event a sled does not meet the above specifications.
